When discussing my popular culture topic regarding rituals we can see how the use of technology has gone from something we do every once in a while, to a ritual we do every day. I remember back in the early ninety’s when the internet really first started to pick up, and it was something you did once a day, maybe twice. After reading some of the information on rituals, I realized that things we do every day can be a ritual. Things such as waking up, brushing your teeth, brushing your hair, getting dressed and going to work or school is a ritual.

Our routines are our own personal rituals that we do every day. Since the use of technology has implemented its way into our everyday life, this has now become a ritual or routine for almost everyone in society, in some way or another. The use of technology has been adapted to the point where one’s cell phone can access a number of things used in daily life to make it more accessible such as banking info, contact with friends via social media, text, and talk, email, assignments, work, music, books, magazines. So by the technology scene being such a big part of our lives, it is now implemented into our routine.

A lot of rituals now for one’s self include some form of technology such as, it is not uncommon for many people to wake up, brush their teeth, get dressed, head to work, log into their Facebook via their phone, check their email, view their checking amount statement, and contact someone using social media. This is all easily at our fingertips to the point where it has become a part of our everyday ritual.

I gained a lot of insight from looking at my popular culture topic from the point of view of rituals. I can see now that the use of technology is some way, shape, or form, has become a part of our everyday routines, and a part of our rituals in our daily lives.
